Prepare for Holiday Eating during Weight Loss

There are a few things you can do before, during and after the holidays to maintain your weight (or maybe even continue to lose a little weight before the end of the year!) while still enjoying eating a few holiday treats.

Lose Weight Before The Holidays

If you have a big holiday party or holiday meal coming up, pay special attention to what you’re eating and drinking for a week or two before your holiday event. Focus on avoiding any extra calories and making as many healthy food choices as possible. Make sure to stick with your exercise routine and see if you can squeeze in a little extra physical activity.

Be focused on staying on your weight loss plan, but do not starve yourself in preparation for the holidays. Not only could you plateau your weight as your body tries to hang on to scarce calories, but you’re more likely to overeat once the holidays eat.

When the big day comes, don’t go crazy. But you should be able to indulge in a few special treats knowing that you’ve been working hard to lose weight and earn yourself a little reward.

During The Holidays

Try to stick to your normal routine of eating and exercising as much as possible. While the holidays do get busy and there is plenty of holiday food, you still have lots of meals that are eaten at home in between parties. Make sure that you’re sticking with your weight loss program as much as possible in between the festivities.

If you’re cooking the holiday meal, cook healthy. Find healthy recipe alternatives for your favorite holiday foods. You can find a low fat, lower calorie version of just about any dish online. Not only will you be keeping yourself healthy, but you’ll be helping everyone else at your table eat healthier as well.

Make a special effort to drink more water than normal during the holidays. Water is one of the best things you can add to your diet in order to lose weight. It will help you feel more full so you’re less likely to binge on sweets and fatty foods.

Lose Weight After The Holidays

If, despite your best efforts, you find that you’ve gained weight during the holidays, you’ll need to reduce your calories and increase your physical activity. The better you were able to keep up with your schedule before and during the holidays, the easier it will be to work off any extra holiday pounds.

Try to remember this as you head into the holidays and avoid the mistake of putting all of your weight loss and lifestyle goals off for the New Year. The more you do to prepare yourself before the holiday season begins, the easier it will be to achieve your New Year’s resolutions.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr Robert Ziltzer! He helped me reach my ideal weight and more importantly maintain it for over 2 years. He has also helped me keep my blood pressure exactly where my internist wanted it. Dr Ziltzer is not only exceptional in weight management but also a truly gifted internet’s. His knowledge, kindness, and dedication are remarkable. I am deeply grateful for his care and recommend him whole heartedly!

I really felt comfortable with Kristen at my initial appointment. Everyone at the center was caring and friendly, from Bianca, at the front desk, to Lily, who is the MA. Kristen listened to my frustrations and prior disappointments about what has not worked, and is confident that she can help me achieve my goals of weight loss. I am looking forward and excited to see the success I will attain.

I'd lost 20 pounds on my own and struggled to keep it off. I decided GLP-1 meds were the next step in losing more and keeping it off. I wanted a medical doctor supervised program and chose SWLC. I am so very glad I did! The team in Glendale is so supportive and kind; and when I feel discouraged, they pick me up with positive energy and input. They really do a great job with encouragement all the time. 6 weeks in I've lost 17 pounds, and am approaching weight loss with a very new perspective. Also knowing that when I reach my target goal, they'll be there through maintenance and beyond is encouraging as well. Good to not feel alone on this journey.
