Who me, I have a weight problem?
In my late 30’s, before I became more focused on helping others lose weight, I started putting on weight of my own. My pant size went from a 28 to a 30 to a 32 to 34 inches! Now these were getting tight. I thought to myself: “I guess this is what’s supposed to happen when you age.” I was in major denial. My mom was visiting from out of town. She mentioned, “Wow, you’re getting a belly!” It hit me like a ton of Crisco. I was so mad, and my initial thought was to lash out at her. Then I realized the brutal truth.
I let happen to me what so many of us do. I finally understood why so many of us gain weight. It’s so insidious. Those 5 pounds each year caught up with me. It was due to the night time snacking on ice cream an cookies. I immediately stopped this lethal habit and took up running. Over the next 6 months, I lost 15 pounds and 5 inches. I continue to run, which allows me to get away with the occasional food excess. I am training for my second marathon, and feel better than I have in years.
Now my motto is: Never buy the next pant size!
