Scottsdale, Arizona June 27, 2012 — Lorcaserin (Belviq-Arena Pharmaceuticals, San Diego), is a new and unique drug; it’s the first drug for weight loss to work by specifically targeting the 5-HT2c brain’s serotonin receptors. These receptors when triggered promote fullness. This fullness results in weight loss.

“It’s a new weight loss tool that is long overdue,” states Craig Primack MD. He continues “I literally jumped up and down when I heard the news today.” “This is huge news, one that brings hope to patients with this challenging disease,” added Robert Ziltzer MD.

With 2/3 of the population overweight or obese, doctors are concerned about the lack of new tools for treatment. Finally, the Food & Drug Administration reversed course and has approved Lorcaserin a new weight loss and weight management medication.
