Adding cycling to your weight loss program is a simple and effective way to increase activity while getting out of the house or office. Scottsdale is the perfect place for riders of all skill levels. so much so that the League of American Bicyclists has recognized Scottsdale as a bicycle-friendly city.
Since the whole city of Scottsdale is laid out before you as a cyclists dream come true, there aren’t many other trails for you to ride–but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
Sunrise: The Sunrise bicycle trail has a rugged terrain and offers great views of both Scottsdale and Phoenix. The trail isn’t completely biker-friendly yet, so be careful of hikers and cactus.
The Arizona Trail: The Arizona Trail is an 800 plus mile trail that goes from Mexico to Utah and, obviously, through Arizona. It is not directly in Scottsdale, but can be found just east of the city.
When biking alone or with friends, be sure to be completely prepared. Bring plenty of water to keep you hydrated. Wear sunscreen and bring some with you for frequent re-applications. Always wear cool, comfortable clothing that offers some kind of protection from the elements. It is a good idea to carry a cell phone, map, compass and a small first aid kit. Always let a friend, neighbor or loved one know where you are going and what time to expect you back.
