Your Biggest Weight Loss Priority is Yourself

by

Losing weight will cause a lot of changes in your life. This includes the way you spend your free time around Scottsdale, the places you like to eat, the way you spend the evening. It all changes when you start a new weight loss program.

The most successful weight loss programs will only work with personal investment and commitment. This means that walking the walk isn’t enough for long term success. To lose weight and keep it off, you need to focus on what the process means to you, and let the changes hit you close to home.

A Weight Loss Journey: Putting Yourself First

Take a minute to yourself to think about what it is that makes your world go round. Is it your career, your religion, your relationships? Of all the priorities you have, the biggest one shouldn’t be your career or even your family. Because to care about others, you have to focus on yourself first. Self-care is one of the most overlooked aspects of wellbeing. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, are you in the right place to take care of someone else?

It’s never too late to turn things around and begin heading in a new direction. In this case, the direction is health and happiness. Before you establish a plan with your weight loss doctor, you must accept that you (and only you) are responsible for your actions. Despite mistakes from the past, you’re still the ultimate creator, promoter, and advocate for your decisions. Today is the day you’ve decided to seek the help of your weight loss doctor to better your health for the long haul.

Here are a few helpful strategies that you can use to start putting yourself first:

  • Journal every day. Take the time to reflect on your thoughts and actions every day. It’s a great way to keep in touch with yourself and understand your needs better.
  • Practice saying no. There is a lot of pressure to say yes, but sometimes what you need most is to say no. Stay home and relax every once in a while and let someone else take care of a problem.
  • Give yourself what you need. Hunger is more than the need to eat, it is an opportunity to give your body sustenance. Try listening to your body and giving it more of what it is asking for—healthy foods, plenty of water, and regular exercise.

You may have neglected your health in the past to put others first, but now it’s time to put yourself on the pedestal. Your friends and family may contribute to your internal pressures and disregard your wants and needs. But you can learn to handle this pressure and keep moving forward. Remember, taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do in becoming a better friend to those you care about.
