Sneaking Activity into Weight Loss in ScottsdaleWhat if your medical weight loss program became your reintroduction to having fun? Most people don’t necessarily think of losing weight as a fun process, but the bottom line is that getting healthy is all about improving your quality of life, and can that easily help you get more fun from each day.

A core component of medical weight loss programs is exercise and in Scottsdale, Chandler, Glendale, and Phoenix there are plenty of resources available to help you become more active. But if the idea of going for a bike ride or a run does nothing for you, there are many other activities that you can sneak into your day so you barely know you are exercising at all.

Finding Ways to Workout

Workouts are not restricted to the gym.

This is perhaps one of the biggest lessons that so many people have to learn when they first venture into a weight loss program. Exercise can happen at any time, at any place. That means it could be at your home in the middle of the night, in your office in the middle of the workday, or out and about in the middle of your weekend. All you need to get active and burn calories is a little bit of energy and a creative mind.

Here are a few ideas as to how you can improve your personal fitness level without lacing up your sneakers for a traditional workout at the gym.

  • Family outings. Get together with your family or friends for a hiking trip into the woods, or stay in town and hit the mall or even a local rock climbing gym. These types of activity are just variations of what you’d be doing at the gym, with the big difference of it being a great way to spend time with other people.
  • Active video games. The years of sitting passively on the couch and watching a small figure run around on the screen are quickly fading. Some of the most popular video game systems now require you to stand up and move around to control the figure on the screen, and that is actually a great way to burn some calories. For an especially great workout, check out the Wii Fit or Xbox Kinect games that are targeted towards fitness.
  • Play with the kids. Parents have a great excuse to hit up the local playground and put their skills to the test. The monkey bars, swing set and jungle gym are great places to fit in a fabulous core and cardio workout while having a great time with the young ones. Step it up a notch and play game of tag to get moving around the yard.

Even if you don’t have kids you can take advantage of your neighborhood or front yard. Get a few friends together and start a game of soccer, touch-football or ultimate Frisbee.

There is no excuse for missing a workout! If you aren’t a fan of the gym, find other ways that you can get active. Having fun with your workouts will help you enjoy your weight loss program and will motivate you to continue working towards your weight loss goal.
