For Weight Loss, Become the Priority

by

It starts out small: more things to do means fewer hours to spend worrying about your wardrobe, your hair, or your once-favorite TV shows. But then it creeps into other aspects of your life. Kids, work demands, plain old fatigue—suddenly you are spending less time cooking and more time grabbing fast food on the way home from one after school club and on your way to another late night email session. When you look back, it could seem like life has really gotten away from you. This is a discouraging thought, and what is even more discouraging is the complacent mindset—believing there is nothing that you can do about it.

It doesn’t matter how long it has been since you’ve last gone to the gym. It doesn’t matter what your eating patterns are like now, or how long it’s been since you’ve opened a cookbook. All that matters is your willingness to make changes to how your life is going now.

There is always going to be a hustle and bustle, but that doesn’t mean that you have to let the busyness of life dictate your actions. Let your medical weight loss program in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Glendale, and Chandler be the inspirational force behind making you the priority in your life once again.

Taking on Change

As you look back on your struggles with excess weight, do you ever feel like you took yourself for granted? Though this may seem hard to admit, as it is for many of us, we lose track of ourselves when we progress through life constantly nurturing the others in our relationships and ignoring our own wants and needs. Years pass and we find ourselves overweight, unhealthy and perhaps unhappy.

You can start making simple changes in your life that will bring your happiness back to front and center. Here are a few strategies to help you get started:

  • Keep a journal: Simply taking the time to write down your thoughts and spend time with your emotions and opinions can give you added perspective on your day and help you make smarter choices for your personal wellbeing.
  • Find me time: There are only 24 hours in a day and with work and family demands, that often doesn’t feel like enough. Do whatever it takes to find at least 20 minutes a day where you can go sit and enjoy a cup of tea, read a book or do something else you enjoy. If you find a workout that you enjoy, you can look at that as your me time, too.
  • Be healthy for yourself: Don’t think about medical weight loss as a way to lose weight so you can look better for other people. This is something that you are doing for yourself. Admire your desire to be healthier. Think about how hard you have worked and how much you want to lose weight and honor that commitment. This can help you overcome temptations to binge eat or skip a workout.

It’s never too late to turn things around and begin heading in a new direction—and in this case, the direction is health and happiness. Before you can begin working on your health by establishing a plan with your weight loss doctor, you must accept that you and only you are responsible for your actions. Despite mistakes from the past, you still remain the ultimate creator, promoter and advocate for the decisions you make today, and today is the day you’ve decided to seek the help of your weight loss doctor to better your health for the long haul.

We're the experts you can trust to guide you through a weight loss program that will not only take the weight off but keep it off.
