Welcome to Scottsdale Weight Loss Kids
We are sure this program will be both a fun and exciting experience for you. Over the next few weeks, as you learn how to follow the food plan, participate in increasing activity and begin the class series, you’ll notice that your clothes will begin to fit looser, your energy will improve and that and your self-confidence will soar!
Our job is to make the process as easy as possible.
We will provide the tools to make sure you are successful. We do this by combining several different parts at the same time. This includes changes in the foods you eat (diet), increasing activity (exercise), educating you on how to keep the weight off (classes), and giving you expert guidance along the way (doctors). We understand being a teen is not easy. We know that being an overweight teen can be truly challenging. It is our job to support you physically and emotionally through this process.
What is your program?
- An initial visit with Dr. Ziltzer or Dr. Primack. Your doctor will talk with you about your medical history and recent blood work, and with your input, together design the best meal plan for you. Sometimes, if appropriate, medications may be used to make it easier to lose weight and control your hunger.
- An activity/exercise plan best suited to your interests and time. The most important role of exercise is to keep off the weight you have lost, and to have fun doing it!
- An educational program, which meets weekly for 12 weeks. Some classes will include parents, and some will not. Classes will ensure your success. Your classes may begin in the weeks or months after you actually start your weight loss program.
- Follow up visits, usually every 2-4 weeks with your doctor, to monitor your progress and keep you on track.
Since you are our patient, we want your parents to back off from the role of “food police.” Hopefully, that will be a relief to both you and to your parents. To make it easier, we can make a list to let your parents know what foods you would like them to have at home for you.
Equally as important, is to create a “safe zone” at home. Weight loss is much easier when there aren’t unhealthy foods in the house. This makes choosing healthy foods easy. We shouldn’t rely on willpower or self denial to be successful. If you have siblings, please ask that they eat junk foods out of the house.
Most importantly, we are here to help you and answer any questions you have. Remember: there is no question too silly to ask.
We look forward to your success,
