FoodGauge for Weight Loss

weight loss guide food gaugeFiguring out which foods are best for weight loss can be confusing, but with FoodGauge, healthy eating decisions are much easier. FoodGauge is an app designed to quickly analyze the nutritional value of the foods you eat, helping you take the guesswork out of your weight loss diet.

What is FoodGauge?

Developed by Scottsdale Weight Loss to help patients make healthy food decisions, FoodGauge is available for iPhone, iPod Touch and BlackBerry and tells you which foods will help most with weight loss by evaluating and rating nutritional value.

Simply enter information from any food’s nutrition label and hit calculate. FoodGauge will give you a numerical score that tells you whether or not that food will help you lose weight.

Using FoodGauge

FoodGauge Application SampleUsing FoodGauge is simple: just enter the grams per serving of fat, carbohydrates, fiber and protein you find on any food label, as well as the number of servings you’ll be eating. Based on this information, FoodGauge will give you a rating between 1 and 5, which will tell you whether that food will be a good or poor choice.

Interpreting Your Results

When you calculate a food’s nutritional value, FoodGauge will give you one of the following nutritional ratings:

  • 4 and 5: Eat freely. These foods are the most likely to help you lose weight. Remember that even these high-rated foods can lead to weight gain if eaten in excess.
  • 3: Eat in moderation. These foods may not lead to weight gain, but they may not help you lose weight either. When possible, choose a 4 or 5 food instead.
  • 1 and 2: Eat sparingly. These foods are the most likely to lead to weight gain and should usually be avoided.

Higher ratings are given to foods that are high in protein and/or fiber. Lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, non-fat cheese, vegetables and low-sugar fruits typically rate highly on FoodGauge.

Lower ratings are given to foods that are high in carbohydrates (sugars) and/or fat. Baked sweets, butters, oils and cereals often rate poorly on FoodGauge.

Using FoodGauge at the grocery store, at restaurants and at home can help you ensure that you’re always making food choices that will help you lose weight.
